Music: Bring Back the 90's

Here’s a fun listening comprehension/conversation activity.   Choose a slow song that nobody is likely to know, one of those early 90’s slow tunes of broken promises and broken hearts will work well. Ask your students to close their eyes and listen. (Play it twice because it will get some laughs.) Then ask them if they remember a particular line in the song. Ask them what the song is about, why they think the other person left, for example. Then ask them about their taste in music.  Finally, engage the students in a nice participative conversation, relating the conversation  to the material  your students are currently learning.  This activity also works well  for practicing tenses: Did he lie to her? Was she nice to him? Will she ever go back? What do you think he is going to do to get her back? Have you done that for someone you loved? Would you ever do that for someone you love?
